January 2010 Archives
We walked to music class, and later to story hour. Both featured a rendition of the Itsy-bitsy spider. Anna lent Laila her warm scarf to keep her neck warm, and Laila also borrowed one of Anna's gloves.
Laila grabbed her bottle from me this morning, and figured out the right angle to hold it so that she got milk in her mouth! After a few moments of holding it, she tumbled onto all fours and began crawling towards her toy box -- and then proceeded to wreak havoc the rest of the morning, playing with toys, playing with food, and having an extra-silly time exploring everything. Suddenly the world is her oyster.
Yes: Laila had pickles and cheese as the appetizer before dinner. Dinner was a much more common dish, chicken noodle soup.
Laila of course wanted to hold the umbrella, with its duck handle, as we walked through the Lower East Side.
We all enjoyed a morning walk around the neighbourhood. All was still and quiet in the early hours -- all except Laila, who was chortling with delight.
Laila drops, flings, tosses, and once in a while loses track of food on its journey from the plate to her mouth. Sprout benefits from this: he waits patiently at the base of the high-chair, and reaps the reward of carrots, peas, and especially chicken. Sprout loves the chicken.
Laila held the shopping list in her hand, and made sure we picked up everything!
The weather became unexpectedly warm today, and Laila enjoyed two rounds of swinging at the park!

Laila found Sprout's belovèd lime, which he carries with him from room to room, and was playing with it. Sprout kept a respectful distance: he knows that not only will Laila grab, but that her reach is growing as she becomes more independently mobile.
Laila picked this book out of her big box of books, and started flipping through it. And she was making her distinctive "it's the cat!" noise when she saw the cover with the scrawny lion! We did not read the book all the way through, though, because she kept turning the pages faster than I could read aloud.
Laila is also flashing the "Lower East Side" sign (if it were "UES" she would be holding her hands above her head. But she's a downtown baby.)
Laila loves watching Sprout: she chases after him when they are both on the floor. He moves slowly but precisely, and she moves backwards, to they have not yet come into conflict. Close, but not yet. We encourage her to be gentle when she is reaching out to touch him: his fur comes out in tufts.

Laila ate beets, whole-wheat rotini, and roasted chicken for lunch. The beets stained all the other food a vivid rosy hue, but managed to not color her already-purple top.
